In a way, you could say that soccer saved Sophia Malinoski’s life. One day at practice, she slipped and hit her head. The MRI showed no concussion—but it did reveal a brain tumor. Having brain surgery was scary for Sophia, but she faced it with courage, grace and plenty of help from her medical team at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. “They were really nice and got the whole tumor out!” she said. Now 10 years old, Sophia has made a complete recovery and is currently focused on improving her backstroke so she can try out for swim team this fall. It’s been a long journey for Sophia, but she’s glad that it led her to the Doernbecher Freestyle Program. “Sophia’s contribution to the latest collection includes fun sideline and fan gear, as well as some powerful design elements on the uniform. For instance, she redesigned the “Oregon” logo, replacing the second “O” with a yellow cancer awareness ribbon.
The women's Air Max 90 from this edition of the Doernbecher Freestyle program features Oregon-inspired hues and a modern camo pattern filled with words and images that are meaningful both to him and his Doernbecher co-designers Ethan and Joe.

HERITAGE
Remember the revolution. 1987 saw the birth of the Air Max lineage, showcasing visible Air for the first time. What began as an experiment in cushioning soon evolved into an icon on the track – and the streets. Over the years, it’s been reimagined and retooled, but the heritage always remains.
