Hard work doesn't bother her. Critics can't faze her. Gymnast Alexa Moreno is vaulting to the top of Mexico's list of athletes to watch. But she's not stopping there.
In 2018, 24-year-old Alexa Moreno became the first Mexican female artistic gymnast to win a medal at the World Championships. Today, she's setting the stage for the next generation of female athletes and is committed to open new doors in sport.
What inspires you as an athlete and/or as a woman?
ALEXA MORENO: As a woman, it is always great to see other women achieve beyond expectations. I admire female gymnasts who go above and beyond, and those who have managed to stand out, because I know there are many ways in which female participation in sport is limited.
"If things don't work one way, try another. Don't assume it's impossible".

What would you like to achieve during your career and what kind of future do you want to see?
ALEXA: I would like to open new doors for the next generation of athletes—by putting Mexico's name on the world stage. I want to set a precedent for future gymnasts, so that they don't have to break the same barriers. I want to build on my achievements and have a greater vision. Today I am honoured to have the responsibility to pave the way for the next generation of female athletes, hoping that what I get to achieve will give them more opportunities to chase a future in sport.

What do you want young female Mexican gymnasts to know?
ALEXA: They don't have to look to other countries when they have role models right at home. I want them to say, "I'm a young female athlete too, and I can do it". The important thing is to persevere. Don't forget why you do what you do, and why you love it.
