There’s nothing conventional about Michaela’s story. Nope, nada. It makes sense then, that she’s unlike other ballerinas in the way she dances too. She tells us, “In the ballet world we are very much people pleasers and we put ourselves aside. We don’t put our identities in the movement, we just play a role. But I feel this generation is trying to change that. What I love, is that I’ll be a character, but always put a little twist in there – my feistiness or y’know, add a bit of sauce.”

Putting her own spin on traditional moves allows Michaela to not only be a better dancer, but also be more confident in herself. “Being able to perfect the classical moves and then make them your own gives you a sense of fulfilment and freedom.”
