What to know:
- Nike Aerogami is a new performance-apparel technology that increases breathability for athletes when they need it.
- Debuting in the Nike Run Division Aerogami Jacket, the adaptable venting system provides on-demand breathability, increasing airflow when the reactive vents detect sweat.
To help runners better regulate body temperature while exercising, experts from the Nike Explore Team and Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) have created a new performance-apparel technology: Nike Aerogami.
The team set out to create a product that interacts with athletes' bodies in real time as they warm up, sweat and cool down. The Nike Run Division Aerogami Jacket—the first product to be made using Nike Aerogami—features an adaptable venting system that opens as it detects sweat on the body.

How does Nike Aerogami work?
For optimal ventilation, a series of tiny winged vents powered by moisture-reactive film opens as sweat builds against the skin, creating increased airflow and a space for sweat to escape.
When the body cools down and sweat dries, the vents close back up.
The new Nike Run Division Aerogami Jacket features the venting system across the chest and upper back of the garment—two of the areas where runners tend to heat up and sweat most.
Informed by testing in the NSRL and data visualisation from runners' heat and sweat maps, the vent placement varies between the women's and men's jackets to accommodate different needs. For example, vents on the women's jacket are placed around the area where a sports bra typically sits.
"We know feeling too warm, uncomfortable and distracted while wearing a running jacket is a common challenge many runners face, so we've developed an innovative solution that gives them increased breathability without compromising style and protection", said Jahan Behbahany, senior apparel innovation product manager in Nike's Advanced Innovation Collective.
The jacket also features Storm-FIT ADV, a combination of windproof and waterproof fabrics to help protect runners from wind and rain.
The Nike Run Division Aerogami Jacket releases in women's and men's sizing in the autumn of 2023 on Nike.com and at select retailers.
