Air Max Day 2024: Introducing the Air Max Dn, the next generation of Air Technology

Air Max Day celebrates the rich heritage of Air Max on 26 March with an annual launch of a new design or innovation focused on Air, and is the ongoing commitment to evolve Air Max as a platform and Air cushioning.

The first Air Max Day traces back to 2014 when the team at Nike decided to celebrate the anniversary of the historic Nike Air Revolution ad that first debuted on 26 March 1987, which officially launched the Air Max Shoe.

The product team at Nike decided to release an original colourway of the Air Max 1 that featured a Volt pop in the midsole with the date "3.26" inscribed on the tongue. As the launch day was getting closer, momentum grew as Air Max enthusiasts worldwide were encouraged to share stories, experiences and photos of their favourite Air Max shoe.

Thousands of people came together worldwide to share their stories and experiences for a shoe that's played such an integral part of their lives. It quickly became evident to the Nike team that Air Max had evolved into more than just a shoe—it's a movement.

The launch of the Air Max Dn introduces Air technology that's never been seen or felt before. 'Dynamic Air', a next generation of innovation designed to create a more dynamic heel-to-toe transition, will be featured in a shoe for the first time. Air Max Dn marks a new generation of bold and sleek footwear cushioning that Nike began more than three decades ago, arriving with a reimagined platform and setting the stage for future innovation.

Dynamic Air comes to life via an Air unit consisting of two pressurised chambers, each with two tubes, and tuned with higher pressure in the heel (15 psi) and lower pressure in the forefoot (5 psi). As you move, air flows freely between the tubes in each chamber. This setup allows air to respond to the pressure, delivering a smooth sensation with every step that isn't just comfortable—it's interactive.

As you walk, the tubed-air unit will respond to the load your body puts on it with each step. The Air unit interacts with your foot in real time and moves with you. It's an unreal new underfoot sensation, representing a significant evolution of Air Max's signature bounce. You'll have a smooth stride and a bounce to your step to keep you moving throughout your day.

The team at Nike knew the shoe couldn't just have groundbreaking technology; it also had to look the part. With a distinctive yet versatile design, the Air Max Dn is a wardrobe staple that allows you to pair it with multiple outfits and a variety of colours. For that reason, Nike will be releasing multiple colourways to allow you to find unique pairings to support any type of outfit you might have in mind.

"We recognise today's youth dresses from head to toe rather than once-upon-a-time sneaker enthusiasts dressing from toe to head", says DePaul Williams, product associate for Nike Lifestyle Footwear. "So, as expected, you will see more energetic colourways but also colours that make it easy to style and add dimension to the wardrobe".

"Our focus was to deliver a new pinnacle Air Max model that the next generation could declare their own, bring Air back to its fast and 'dynamic' form", says Williams.

The Nike Air Max Dn 'All Night' colourway and additional colourways will be released across Nike.com and Nike retail in adult and kids' sizes on 26 March as part of Air Max Week 2024. The Nike Air Max Dn 'All Day' colourway will be launched via SNKRS and selected retailers in adult sizes.
