Designed to tap into school spirit, Nike pioneered the College Colors Program in 1985. Released to the public soon after in 1986, the collection featured footwear with matching apparel that allowed fans of all ages to identify with their favorite teams.
The unique platform helped introduce the Nike Dunk to the world of basketball and beyond. While the debut collection featured colors for schools specifically chosen for the program, the simple combos were created to be adopted by multiple teams from the college level down to high school.
Now returning in true form with a traditional leather build and classic Nike Air cushioning, the Midnight Navy/Varsity Maize colorway was created specifically for a certain segment of Great Lakes State faithful. Instantly accepted, the prideful Nike Dunk was quickly dubbed the “Air Wolverine" by many at the university.
The retro release continues the 30th anniversary celebration of the College Colors Program by Nike.
