During one of his many runs in Eugene, Oregon, Moore broke his foot and was forced to use a dime he kept in his sock to called coach Bowerman to break the news. Once Bowerman inspected Moore’s running shoes, he noticed they had no arch support, leading to his creation of a new shoe with a first-of-its-kind, full-length midsole cushioning design.

Celebrating 45 years of Cortez heritage, three new looks of the silhouette celebrate iconic moments that have helped make the classic endlessly coveted.

The blue suede Cortez Premium nods to the run that ended in Kenny Moore’s broken third metatarsal. The blue suede takes inspiration from the arch support-less footwear worn by Moore when the injury occurred. X-Rays showing Moore’s injured foot cover the sockliner, while the attached lace bag features a dime graphic inspired by the call Moore made to Bowerman.

Built in soft leather, Swoosh-less and bearing Moore’s name, the next design is styled after the first full-length midsole prototype Bowerman cobbled for Moore when he broke his foot. Inside, the shoe features a sockliner displaying Moore’s training regimen, which was put together by Bowerman.
