On-Air: London
Last year, Nike invited locals in New York City, London, Paris, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo to design their own Nike Air Max inspired by the uniqueness of their communities. From these “On Air” workshops, 18 finalists were chosen based on the creative executions of their designs. The public then voted on six winners, one per city, which included Jasmine Lasode from London.
Lasode chose a London staple, the Air Max 97, and based her design on London’s romantic summers, including a first date with her now-girlfriend on the city’s picturesque Primrose Hill. “The colours and details are all personal to our first date,” she says. “There’s the sunset, the drinks we bought at the corner shop, and price tags. Overall, the shoe is about love and good vibes.”
Lasode is pleased to be one of the six winners, especially after taking such a personal approach. “I felt like being true to myself and putting a personal concept out there really paid off,” she says. “I’m really happy that people can relate to it.”
Lasode also hopes that the shoe uplifts others and inspires them to put their life into their work. “I now have more self-belief as a creative in the ever-changing, diverse London creative scene,” she says. “In the past year, I’ve become more involved and aware of the culture around sneakers and have met some great people, too.”
