Nike Forward is made for an athlete’s every move. Not a knit or a woven, Nike Forward is created from multiple thin layers of select fibers, formulated to meet your needs, resulting in an extraordinarily lightweight material that provides year-round warmth.
The Journey Ahead
Crafted for performance and planet, this first iteration of Nike Forward reduces the carbon footprint by an average of 75% (due to the use of recycled materials, lower process energy use, and lower material density) when used instead of our traditional knit fleece material to make an apparel product, representing one step along Nike’s Move to Zero journey, toward a zero waste and zero carbon future. The carbon footprint of Nike Forward material is based on a cradle-to-gate assessment reviewed by PRe Sustainability B.V. Trims and other minor components are excluded from the result.

- The recycled polyester used in Nike products begins as recycled plastic bottles, which are cleaned, shredded into flakes and converted into pellets. From there, the pellets are spun into new, high-quality yarn used in our products, delivering peak performance with a lower impact on the environment.
- In addition to reducing waste, recycled polyester reduces carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to virgin polyester. Nike diverts an average of 1 billion plastic bottles annually from landfills and waterways.
