Best High-Support Sports Bras by Nike
Buying Guide
Renounce the bounce with these supportive picks.
Finding the right sports bra for high-impact workouts can be challenging. Some don’t offer enough support (cue painful and distracting bouncing). Others may provide maximum support, but they’re uncomfortable and difficult to remove. Here’s what you need to know about bras for running, aerobics, soccer, basketball, or HIIT workouts, according to Tara Sweeney, Director, Technical Design – Bras, Nike.
What are high-support sports bras?
Durable and functional, these wardrobe staples provide more support than your everyday bra. Outfitted with advanced technology, they contain and secure your breasts, cutting down on jiggle. “High-support bras are engineered to help reduce the breast displacement and movement caused by activities that are commonly associated with creating bounce, like jumping and running,” Sweeney explains.
Do I need this type of bra for high-impact exercise?
Support is personal when it comes to your workout bra, Sweeney says. “While we usually recommend our high-support bras for running and cardio, there is a big component of preference here. A lot of consumers choose some of our light- and medium-support bras.” However, if you have a larger cup size, these bras will likely be a must for your bust — even for lower-impact activities, Sweeney adds.
Which features should I look for in a high-support sports bra?
To hold your breasts in place while you move, your bra should provide ample support and containment. Sweeney’s team achieves this feat via stronger fabrics, compression or stabilization zones, and or separate molded cups for each breast. At the same time, bras shouldn’t be uncomfortably tight or difficult to remove. Along with fitting properly and feeling good against your skin, bras should be made with quick-drying and breathable fabric.
Try These Supportive Nike Sports Bra Styles
Featuring mesh and Nike’s sweat-wicking Dri-FIT technology, these bras will help keep you dry. Plus, they’re easy to clean—just throw them in the washing machine after a high-intensity workout.
Nike Swoosh High-Support Adjustable Sports Bra
Lightweight and sleek, this bra feels like a second skin. Made with a super-stretchy material, the bra is easy to pull on and off yet stays in place while you move. Wide straps and compression provide support, while the bottom band's extended hook-and-loop closure allows you to adjust the fit. Either opt for classic black or white or add color with pink or purple.
Nike Indy High-Support Women's Padded Adjustable Sports Bra
This smooth, light blue number hugs the skin without pinching or binding, thanks to a soft jacquard chest band. A hook-and-eye clasp makes it easy to put on and take off, while the adjustable straps let you further fine-tune the fit. As another option, try the plus-size version (which comes in black, white, light purple and other colorways too).
Nike Alate Women's Medium-Support Padded Sports Bra Tank Top
Stretchy and stylish, this tank top bra stays in place. Your breasts will do the same, thanks to the fully sewn-in bra. Although the support is medium, this pick might do the trick if your cup size is smaller or your breast tissue firmer, Sweeney says. For more support, hold out for the high-impact version available fall 2024 — though that won’t be a tank style. Choose from black, white, light blue, smoky mauve and purple.
How can I get the right size?
Since a snug and comfortable fit is key, seek an adjustable bra that will conform to your curves. To figure out your size, start with the Nike.com Sizing Guide. If you need more customizable sizing options, try the Nike Swoosh High Support bra.
The Bottom Line
“Pick styles that promote your desired movement and confidence,” Sweeney advises. The best way to do that? In the fitting room, jump up and down to ensure each bra offers the support and comfort you need.
