Bring the Future to Light
While Will Selviz’s visual art reimagines the future, his non-profit foundation is creating a future for artists like him. His art is a visually stunning union of virtual reality, 3D animation, and streetwear culture. His journey has followed the tools he could access, beginning with drawing and then into photography, he’s now progressed into his dream medium in which his first animation of a sneaker was the Tinker-designed Air Max 1. Despite pursuing a passion that is both costly and all-consuming, Will was fearless in mastering 3D animation and VR and now seeks to make that process a little easier for aspiring artists. Today, the Toronto-based artist confronts racial and socioeconomic disparities in the industry through his non-profit RENDRD Foundation, supporting BIPOC creators who, similar to him, did not have the access to software and hardware. Offering mentoring and opportunities to Black youth, RENDRD is on a mission to improve equity in the industry and be the launchpad for the next generation of designers.
“Working in 3D and VR you can actually immerse people in a future that could possibly happen.”
Will’s Afro-Caribbean roots are not only present in his work, but the reason he pays it forward today. Like Air Max, he revisits his humble beginnings and olderdesigns to remain innovative. Will looks tohis past as inspiration for his art and his foundation, while lighting a path for his community to imagine the future with him.
