Nike adds visible Air Zoom unit in creation of Pegasus Premium

In Greek mythology, Pegasus was a winged horse who brought thunderbolts to the gods. Who wouldn't want to tap into that kind of power and performance while running? Get your wings ready: Nike just unveiled the Nike Pegasus Premium, which takes the cushioning that's become a go-to favourite for many runners and adds Nike's first sculpted, visible Nike Air Zoom unit. Here are three reasons why that's a big deal.

1. More power, less fatigue

Because the Air Zoom unit is sculpted, it follows the natural contours of the foot, carrying a runner's power through the transition from heel to toe. That brings numerous perks, and one of the biggest is reduced leg and ankle fatigue—research calls this "protecting the locomotor system against impact loading during prolonged exercise". You'll call it a boon for endurance, especially because the Nike Pegasus Premium returns more energy to the runner than any other model in the Pegasus line.

2. Springy feel, comfortable fit

Another benefit of the Nike Pegasus Premium is the shoe's inclusion of ZoomX foam in the midsole and ReactX foam in the heel. This combo is designed to provide the support and cushioning that's become a hallmark of the Nike Pegasus, while adding even more of a springy, smooth sensation. When these foam features are coupled with the Nike Air Zoom unit, the result is a responsive, efficient, innovative experience.

Plus, the comfort doesn't come only from what's underneath. To create a secure fit over the footbed, Nike engineers developed an upper with a circular knit reinforced in specific areas of the lateral and medial forefoot. That means you get support for your entire foot throughout a run, not just the parts of the feet that are absorbing impact.

3. Geared towards everyone

Every runner knows that variables like gait pattern and stride length can make a difference in performance, and it can be challenging to compare running shoes based on your individual factors.

Nike Pegasus Premium levels the playing field since its features—sculpted Nike Air Zoom unit, midfoot plates and proprietary foams—provide a spring-like mechanism that engages your entire foot. And that means every foot, whatever your gait or stride. Nike Pegasus Premium cushions a runner's landing and smoothly transitions into the next step while delivering that crucial energy return.

Nike Pegasus Premium embodies Nike's dedication to listening to what athletes need and designing with that mission in mind. The Nike Pegasus Premium release date is 30 January 2025. Thunderbolts not included.
