      Our Commitment

Nike is on a mission to make sport available to everyone, everywhere. We’re continuing our commitment to helping shape a strong culture of LGBTQIA+ belonging and visibility in sport. We’re working to expand sport for the next generation through community grants, athlete partnerships, impactful storytelling, and products that celebrate the full spectrum of LGBTQIA+ expression. Because sport is better when all athletes are free to play as themselves.

          Taking Action

We’ve witnessed the power of teamwork in action and know that when we come together, we don’t only win the game—we change it. That’s why Nike’s vision for the future of sport is one in which every body is invited to play.

Whether you’re looking to level up your learning, find resources for a friend, or discover safe and inclusive fitness spaces—our partners have got you covered. Below you’ll find helpful resources from community organizations and a set of principles we’ve learned to practice as allies for LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

Plays to Build Equity in Sport

Here are 5 LGBTQIA+ inclusive practices we’ve learned that you can put into action within your own locker room, field, and everywhere in-between. Let’s go!

          Act First | Inclusion

Take the initiative. Prioritize safe spaces for trans and non-binary youth, even if there are no active requests. When you normalize the needs of LGBTQIA+ athletes, it creates a welcoming environment for them to participate.

          Set the Tone | Advocacy

A coach’s attitude and behaviors are often mirrored by their players. Championing respectful practices and being intentional about your language can set the tone for your team and show them what a great ally looks like.

          Stay Informed | Awareness

Creating a safe environment that is respectful of a full spectrum of identities and pronouns starts with being an informed ally. Stay on top of your game with regular LGBTQIA+ education for both you and your team.

Hold Space | Integrity & Confidentiality

It is always their story to tell. Unless they ask for help, assure trans and non-binary athletes that you will not share any information about their identity.

          Listen to Learn | Empathy

Your initial reaction to the experiences of LGBTQIA+ players is everything. Practicing active listening is a great way to show support and learn the needs of your team without making any incorrect assumptions or damaging comments.

              Our Partners in Pride

It’s our mission to replace the gatekeepers with open doors, swap out tradition for innovation, and get everyone out on the field to play—proudly.

We’re not alone. Nike is proud to partner with organizations around the world doing the work in LGBTQIA+ research, advocacy, and policy. Get into the work from a few of our partners below.
