Jiggy Izzy is a 12-year-old basketball phenom, but she did not get here alone. How important is the role of her family to her success? We will share 3 top tips from the Jiggy Familia on how to support your young athlete.

To Jiggy Izzy, basketball and family are everything. Born and raised in LA, 12 year old Isabella Escribano, has been dubbed “Jiggy Izzy” because of her smooth style and insane handles. She has trained with a number of NBA greats, including Kobe Bryant, but for her it all started at home.

“It’s just the love of the game and my family that keeps me pushing.”

For Jiggy, her family is her original home team. Check out their top 3 tips to help other parents support their kids in sport.

  1. Build it Brick by Brick

Focus on the basics. Jiggy didn’t become great overnight. Kobe told her “you don’t build a house in one day, you take it brick by brick.” She took this to heart, training with her brother Marco as they focus on the basics day in and day out. This is as simple as standing in the same spot and shooting the same shot over and over. And then coming back the next day and doing it again.
  2. Celebrate Small Wins

Boost motivation by taking time out. From a young age, Jiggy’s brother Marco helped her to set goals and visualize her future. Even though she has big dreams, her family always takes time out to celebrate small wins with a Jiggy Familia favorite- pepperoni pizza.
  3. Show Up On and Off the Court

Just be there. Whether it's driving Jiggy Izzy to practice, staying late with her on the court or supporting her when times get tough, each member of her “family” plays an active role by showing up.

“You're not going to build a house in one day, you're going to take it brick by brick- that's what Kobe always told me. So you don't need to rush it."
